JJ’s Friends is a contrafact written over the changes of the popular jazz standard, Just Friends. The trombone section is featured in a trombone soli based upon a transcription of J. J. Johnson’s solo on Just Friends. The soli is followed by solos in Trombone 2 and 3. The two trombones progress to trading eights, fours and twos with the band mixing in backgrounds that build to a drum solo, which sets up a big full-ensemble ending.
