Goodbye, the second movement of the ALL IN ONE SUITE, features Alto Sax 1 throughout. Goodbye is inspired by my father-in-law, who came to the US from Sweden in 1910 on a ship by himself when he was twelve. He spent two weeks at Ellis Island waiting for his older sister to pick him up. His story is interesting, but I found myself wondering how his mother must have felt when she said goodbye to him, knowing she might never see him again. That’s what the piece is about.
